Mountain House, San Joaquin County
Mountain House became a city on July 1, 2024, the newest in California. It was planned from scratch in the 1990s on farmland at the foot of the Altamont Pass, and the first homes were occupied in 2003. The name comes from a waystation that served travelers crossing the hills toward the gold fields in the years after 1849.
